food resources

Here are a few of my favorite things and where to find them.

How do you find recipes?
I own a whole bunch of cookbooks, and suscribe to 8 or so food magazines. See the blogroll for my favorite food blogs, which I organize using Feedly. To keep track of all those recipes, I pay for an eatyourbooks.com membership. EYB catalogues cookbooks and magazines and websites, and allows you to search recipes across your whole collection.

My other favorite recipe sites are Food52 and myrecipes.

Where do you get your ingredients, Katie?
Penzey’s Spices. Trader Joe’s, obviously. Local foods from farmers markets and from my CSA, Tomato Mountain.

I’m in Chicago. Where do I eat?
Try lthforum.com especially if authentic and hole-in-the-wall are your thing. The Chicago Reader has a great dining section. The Eater 38 and Heat Map are good lists to check out. My most recent favorites? GT Fish & Oyster, Longman and Eagle, and the Green City Farmers Market.
